Event Type

Join Well-Beings, a thought-provoking monthly gathering designed for individuals who seek to explore the complexities of living well together. Hosted by artist, philosopher, and social theorist Guadalupe Arellanes, PhD, this series offers an informal space for deep conversations surrounding societal values, truth, freedom, and human existence. Each session is designed to foster philosophical exploration and open dialogue, requiring no prior knowledge or preparation unless otherwise noted.

The first session will delve into social ecology, a theory introduced by Murray Bookchin. This theory argues that most ecological problems stem from deep-rooted social issues, and these cannot be fully addressed without understanding the irrationalities in our current social structure. This discussion aims to illuminate the relationship between society and ecological challenges, encouraging participants to rethink the world they inhabit.

About the Host: Guadalupe Arellanes, PhD, is an artist, philosopher, and academic whose work focuses on social theory, philosophy, and environmental struggles. Her research, “(Im)migrant Ecologies: Relating Beyond Borders”, explores the role of place and relationality within migrant-led environmental movements in Southern California. She is particularly interested in topics like mycelium networks, surrealism, and Kafkaesque themes.
