Mindfulness Yoga at PRS offers a unique series that combines meditation and somatic yoga to engage with chaos and uncertainty. Unlike typical relaxation sessions, this series intentionally incorporates elements of perceived disarray, allowing participants to explore their internal chaos through sound and movement. Each session features live instrumental performances that include irregular rhythms and unpredictable sonic patterns, guiding participants through a meditative journey of acceptance and letting go.
The series, designed for those who wish to confront turbulent emotions rather than seeking pure relaxation, encourages individuals to embrace discomfort, helping them integrate these challenging experiences into their practice. With each class, attendees will use the power of sound, mindful movement, and deep meditation to work through discomfort and find a sense of peace within the unpredictability of life.
The first session, on Saturday, February 1st, is a free (or by donation) community event featuring Guadalupe Arellanes, PhD, alongside musician Noah Klein. Noah, a flautist and community organizer from Los Angeles, will perform alongside the guided meditation. In following sessions, artists like Emanuel Butera and Cole Sainburg will bring their unique musical styles to the experience.
Guadalupe Arellanes, PhD, the event host, is an artist, philosopher, and educator who delves into social theory and philosophy. Her research focuses on relationality within environmental struggles, particularly those led by migrant communities.
